The flag features three equal horizontal stripes of black, red, and green, with a white emblem in the center consisting of a mosque with pulpit and flags on either side, below which are numerals for the solar year 1298 (1919 in the Gregorian calendar, which is when Afghanistan gained independence from Britain).
