A "bear cat" is a term often used to describe the binturong, which is a large, arboreal mammal native to Southeast Asia. It is also known as the "Asian bear cat" or simply the "bearcat." Despite its name, the binturong is not closely related to either bears or cats. It has a long, bushy tail, shaggy black fur, and distinctive white markings on its face. Binturongs are primarily nocturnal and spend much of their time in trees. They have a unique scent that resembles popcorn, which is used for communication and marking territory.
